Hyderabad: Rotary Club of Hyderabad Deccan organized Golf Fund Raising Tournament at Hyderabad Golf Club at Golconda Tombs on Sunday to raise funds to set up a to set up state-of-art the equipment “Flow Cytometer & Bacterial Culture System” to treat Pediatric cancer patients at Oncology Department in MNJ Cancer Hospital to increase longevity of the Paediatric Cancer Patients.
The MNJ Cancer Hospital, established by Nawab Mehdi Nawaj Jung and inaugurated by the first Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, was the first cancer centre in unified Andhra Pradesh to provide cancer care. Hospital with such a history lacks some advanced and life enhancing equipment.
Over 100 seasonal golfers took part in the Golf Tournament and Shashidhar Reddy and Sanjay Kamtam declared winners. First Runner ups were Rama Rao, Nrupenderjeet Singh and Second Runner Ups were Sankeerth N and Srinivas. The prizes were given a way from Rotarians Jessi Birgi, Director Fund Raising; Som Dutt Sharma, President of Rotary Club of Hyderabad Deccan and J. Vikramdev Rao, President of Hyderabad Golf Club; D. Dandith Reddy, Hon Treasurer of Hyderabad Golf Club
The “Flow Cytometer & Baterial Culture System” will help in Diagnosing the degree and intensity of disease in Blood cancer affected children thereby helping in providing the right therapy. The equipment costs Rs 95 lakhs. Rotary Club is planning to raise one third of the cost. Rotary Club of Hyderabad Deccan raised roughly about Rs 20 lakh through this event and will orgnaise another event soon in near future and will mobiles Rs 15 lakh. The balance one thirds will be raised through the Rotary International and other one third will be raised through partner organizations who will provide the matching grant.
Some of the Golfers who participated in the Tournament and graced the awards function including Dr. Vijay Anand Reddy - Oncologist, Cancer Specialist; Avinash Gupta; former Andhra Pradesh DGP Swaranjit Sen and many others.
Rotary Club of Hyderabad Deccan has taken up the cause of Cancer to supply MNJ Cancer Hospital, the life extending equipment. This equipment increases the longevity of children suffering from this dreaded disease CANCER. Although more children are surviving cancer as ever before, young patient successfully treated in 70's and 80's may live a decade less on an average than the general population. With the existing equipment and treatment, the chances of survival are only 40% in MNJ Paediatric Oncology department whereas the chances of survival as per international standard are up to 80%.
