Hyderabad: The High Court at Hyderabad issued contempt notices to the Secretary of Telangana State Assembly and Secretary Law Department, Government of Telangana in the contempt case filed by expelled Congress MLAs Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and S A Sampath Kumar.

The MLAs filed contempt case seeking punishment of these officials under Contempt of Courts Act for non-implementation of Court’s order reinstating their membership in Assembly. Justice B Siva Sankara Rao issued notices to V Narasimhacharyulu, Secretary of Assembly and Niranjan Rao, Secretary of Law Department who have been arrayed as respondents in the contempt case on Friday.

Ravishankar Jandhyala, appearing for the petitioners, submitted to the judge that the contemnors have wilfully disobeyed the orders of the Court. Despite the Court order on April 17, setting aside the resolution of the Assembly expelling the two members and also quashing the subsequent notification issued notifying vacancies of the two constituencies, their membership had not been restored, complained the counsel for the petitioners.

He pointed out that since the Secretary of the Assembly has chosen not to challenge the order of the single judge, that order had attained finality. He charged that the Contemnors have consciously chosen not to appeal against the order of the single judge and at the same time were disobeying the orders by refusing to reinstate their membership.

The judge after hearing the arguments issued notices and posted the case to July 13 for next hearing.
