Hyderabad: The Telangana state police now have ‘COP-Connect’, an alternative application to WhatsApp. Director-General of Police M Mahender Reddy on Monday launched the application, which he said would usher in a communication revolution in the police department. The new application was developed to place all the employees on the same plane.
The police department has set up state-level communicative role-based groups such as – Patrol Officers, Reception Officers, All SHOs, All Circle Inspectors, All SDPOs. In addition to that, they also have unit-level, task-based, and personal groups in place.
The main objective of the application is to maintain better coordination among the police personnel across the state. The application would serve as ‘Telangana Police WhatsApp’ application. The application comes up with enhanced security feature such as three-factor authentication to access the application. Launching COP-Connect, DGP Mahender Reddy said, “It is a revolutionary development.
The department has brought a highly-secured communication digital platform. Unlike WhatsApp application, this one allows incorporating all the police personnel in one group. It is an end-to-end encryption and provides confidentiality, with the server being at state police headquarters.”
The access to the application will be given only to the police personnel, DGP said. “The platform will facilitate sharing information about individual performance of the cops, so that others would be motivated in emulating them,” the top gun of the state said.
The seamless communication tool also helps in instant decision making based on situational awareness at times. The police personnel can share any file irrespective of file format and size. Features of the application include chatting, group chats, file sharing (image, audio, video, and documents), and Location Sharing. There is no number restriction while creating groups or participants. It can be used to have a video conference with 1000 participants at a time, Mahender Reddy said.
