Hanamkonda: The TRS government has diluted Abhaya Hastam scheme, introduced in 2009 by the then Chief Minister late YS Rajashekara Reddy, alleged district Congress president N Rajender Reddy.

He wanted the ruling party legislators to explain what happened to the money contributed by the women members of Self Help Groups for the scheme, which offered insurance cover to women between 18 to 59 years and pension to women aged above 60 years.

The proposal to extend Abhaya Hastham scheme was limited to statements, he alleged while addressing the public in GWMC 36th division in Warangal (West) constituency on Thursday as part of his ongoing padayatra. The government must come clear on the scheme, he demanded.

Hitting at the ruling party Mayor and members of the GWMC council, Rajender Reddy said they claim the corporation was being given huge amounts of funds but why the citizens were burdened with taxes. Public here were forced to pay garbage tax unlike other places in the State.

There was no response from the GWMC council on the demand of releasing a White Paper on the funds released to the corporation so far. Rs 600 crores were said to be released as part of CM assurances to the corporation but there were no accounts related on how the money was spent, he added.

Corruption was widespread in the corporation, he alleged while accusing the ruling party leaders of committing forgery of previous Commissioners’ signature. When noticed the issue, Municipal Administration Minister K Taraka Rama Rao has also admonished the leaders in that connection, he said.

There were no proper detailed project reports (DPRs) and no administration sanctions to the works proposed though the government was issuing a series of orders sanctioning funds. As a result, many development works were limited to laying foundation stones, Rajender Reddy noted.

Youth Congress state president Anil Kumar Yadav took part in the padayatra extending his solidarity. Ex-MLA B Arogyam, party leaders K Srinivas Rao, Namindla Srinivas, Banka Sarala, K Ravali, and others were present.
