Nagarjuna Sagar (Nalgonda): The police arrested two persons at Sagar new bridge on Sunday midnight while they were allegedly transporting the sheep, distributed to farmers by the government, to Guntur district in Andhra Pradehs.

According to police, the arrested were identified as Mailaboina Seethaiah and Perumalla Seethaiah. They are native of Subbireddypalem under Macherla mandal in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh.

They had bought as many as 110 sheep by paying Rs 3.50 lakh at Mallepally market on Sunday and paid Rs 5,500 towards tax. The duo purchased sheep from Bikani Sailu, native of Yacharam mandal in Ranga Reddy district and Mudavath Tapurya, native of Deverakonda mandal, the police said.

The vehicles in which the duo was transporting the sheep was intercepted at the check post at new bridge. The police communicated to the officials Animal Husbandry about the transporting of sheep, distributed to farmers under subsidised scheme.

The Animal Husbandry officials, Nagarjuna Reddy, after examining the sheep on Monday morning, identified the 45 sheep as those distributed to farmers under Special Package for Sheep Development.

The officials informed the Peddavooa Shepherd Association about the illegal transaction the sheep distributed to the shepherds under the scheme.A unit consisting of 21 sheep was given to Naddi Ramalingaiah. He is one of the members of the Association. The remaining 24 sheep were bought by Mudavath Tapurya for Rs 55,000 in an auction. The Sagar police filed case against Seenaiah and Seethaiah.
