Hyderabad: The Telangana State is poised for a takeoff in modernisation of facilities for farmers. For instance, after the division of the State, the Marketing department has taken up construction of scientific warehouses at 356 locations with a cost of Rs 1,024 crore, with 18.3 lakh metric tonnes of combined capacity. With financial assistance from National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) for the project, the State government has so far completed construction of 320 warehouses with the remaining at various stages of execution.
According to official sources, another important area where modernisation and expansion took place was in Rythu Bazaars. There used to be only 30 Rythu Bazaars before the division of the State. But after the formation of Telangana, another 30 Rythu Bazaars have been sanctioned. Among them, 12 have already started functioning and the remaining ones are nearing completion.
The Department has established a modern Rythu Bazaar at Siddipet with all the required facilities in the interest of farming community. Model Rythu Bazaar at Kukatpally in the existing land, sanctioned Rs 5.50 crore, is under progress by temporarily shifting it below the Hi-tech city flyover, a source in the marketing department said.
