Foundation for major canal laid
Amidst tussle between the Congress party MLA Chinna Reddy and TRS representative Singi Reddy Niranjan Reddy, vice Chairman of the Planning Commission, government of Telangana, foundation was laid to a major canal in Wanaparthy district on Tuesday On completion of this canal it is expected to irrigate 5000 acres of land in Wanaparthy constituency
Wanaparthy: Amidst tussle between the Congress party MLA Chinna Reddy and TRS representative Singi Reddy Niranjan Reddy, vice Chairman of the Planning Commission, government of Telangana, foundation was laid to a major canal in Wanaparthy district on Tuesday. On completion of this canal it is expected to irrigate 5000 acres of land in Wanaparthy constituency.
While laying the foundation stone for the construction of the canal, S Niranjan Reddy said that during the past four years, MLA Chinna Reddy had been creating a lot hurdles and was not cooperating to help initiate various development works in Wanaparthy.
However, even after facing many roadblocks by the Congress leader Niranjan reddy went ahead and laid foundation stone for the construction of the canal to create an additional ayacut of 5000 acres in Wanaparthy mandal under Mahatma Ghandi Kalwakurthy Lift Irrigation Scheme (MGKLIS).
According to Niranjan Reddy, the water from MGKLIS tributary major canal is intended to fill the lakes of Kothacheruvu and Kancheruvu. If these tanks are filled it would irrigate the areas under Savaigudem, Kishtagiri, Kishtagiri thanda, Peddagudem and Peddagudem thanda.
“Once this major canal is completed it would irrigate 5000 acres of land under 5 major villages in Wanaparthy district,” said Reddy.
Alleging that under the Congress rule, the MGKLIS design was prepared in an incomplete manner because of which major areas in Wanaparthy district missed getting irrigation water.
While talking at the ground breaking ceremony Niranjan Reddy said, “the initial design of MGKLIS missed out many villages. However, after TRS government came to power after a lot of brainstorming, the idea of laying a canal from distributaries 8 was decided as these villages were at a great disadvantage as they were located at a higher altitude.”
Reddy said because of in appropriate design of MGKLIS some 15200 acres of land in Gopalpet mandal, Yedutla and Qasimnagar were not included in the initial DPR or KLI project during the congress regime. Similarly about 5000 acres were not included under the distributaries 8 of the MGKLIS scheme.
Adding further, Niranjan reddy said though it was technically not possible to create additional ayacut under the project, hydraulic permission would have to be taken for that, however, taking it up as a new project would again consume at least two years therefore it has been decided to align Dattaipally Khancheruvu in such a way that by cutting and banking it would help enable building the major canal and thus water could be drawn from the tank and irrigate an additional ayacut of 5000 acres in Wanaparthy through the new canal.
