Suryapet: The police claimed to have busted a gang of burglars who targeted goods vehicles on national highway-65. The arrested were identified as Sarvan lal Choudary (25), Ramdev Jat (24) and Om Prakash Kumavath (34).

They all hailed from Rajastan. Two more members of the gang are still at large. The notorious gang is known as Rajastan ‘tarpaulin gang’ (Sarvan Lal gang), the police said Parading the arrested in front of the media, Superintendent of Police R Venkateshwarlu said the gangsters had established their base in Hyderabad.

They had been looting the goods from the running vehicles on Outer Ring Rings and Hyderabad-Nagpur highway. Explaining the modus operandi of the gang, the Superintendent of Police said the criminals climbed onto the running goods vehicles and by ripping open the tarpaulins on the vehicles, they used to shift the goods onto vehicles they had brought.

The Police recovered stolen goods of worth Rs 1.15 crore from the arrested apart from sezing a Scorpio vehicle and a DCM mini lorry, Venkateswarlu said. Police team were constituted to launch manhunt for the two alleged offenders who are still at large.
