Civic issues galore

The Secunderabad Cantonment, primarily a military area with a sizable civilian population, is spread over 22.81 km. The civic administration is looked after by the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) as per the Cantonment Act 2006.

The SCB collects taxes of various kinds including property tax, water, toll and trade tax but relies heavily on the central government to undertake developmental activities. Lack of proper roads and water for all the basties is a major issue. The SCB owes close to Rs 20 crore to the HMWSSB and is unable to pay the dues that have mounted over the years.
