The Telangana Academy of Sciences TAS is holding its first ever Telangana State Science Congress TSSC2018 from December 22 to 24 in association with the National Institute of Technology, Warangal NITW

Warangal: The Telangana Academy of Sciences (TAS) is holding its first ever Telangana State Science Congress (TSSC-2018) from December 22 to 24 in association with the National Institute of Technology, Warangal (NITW).

The NITW has come forward to organise the event as part of its Diamond Jubilee celebrations. The event also marks the 131st birth anniversary of the Indian Mathematical prodigal genius Srinivasa Ramanujan. December 22 is also observed as the ‘National Mathematics Day’.

The focal theme of the three-day TSSC-2018 is ‘Science & Technology for All Round and Sustainable Development of the Telangana State’. Being an infantile federal state with rich cultural heritage and abundant natural and human resources, the State of Telangana deserves an orchestrated support from the advances in Science and Technology for its overall and all-round development.

The Telangana Science Congress envisages the State of Telangana poised to leap into an industrial hub very soon. The TSSC-2018 will identify key areas and action plan activities a sustainable development of the Telangana State.

“The highlight of the conference is an interaction session of the schoolchildren in Warangal District (Urban & Rural) with renowned scientists on December 22 and an exclusive session on science in the service of society,” NITW Director NV Ramana Rao said, speaking to media persons here on Thursday. The plan is to take forward scientific creative activity through education, discussions research and discovery. This is accomplished by identification and nurturing of scientific talent among the young, he said.

TSSC-2018 Organising Secretary Prof. K Laxma Reddy, Chemistry NITW, said that a galaxy of prominent scientists, technocrats, science administrators and other officials and intellectuals are delivering invited talks and distinguished lectures in cutting-edge areas of Science and Technology. The Organising Committee of the TSSC-2018 owes a lot to these dignitaries to be making the Congress an event of great learning that includes 5 Distinguished Lectures and 36 Invited Lectures.

Former Secretary, DST, Padma Bhushan Awardee Dr T Ramasami will be delivering a keynote address. A total of 300 delegates will be presenting their work in all the themes that include (1) Physical and Mathematical Sciences, (2) Engineering and Technology, (3) Chemical Sciences, (4) Biological Sciences, (5) Earth and Environmental Sciences and (6) Medical Sciences. There are some sub-themes also like empowerment of women in science and engaging teachers, school students and youth into the S&T enterprise.

HMDA Commissioner Dr B Janardhan Reddy and Principal Secretary, IT Jayesh Ranjan will be delivering invited talks on special sub theme on ‘Smart Cities’. On first and third day there will be plenary sessions.

The speakers during the plenary session in first day will be Dr TN Venkata Ramana, TIFR and Dr Prahlad Ramarao, DRDL, while former Professor of the UoH AR Reddy and NITW Director Prof NV Ramana Rao. There is also a panel discussion on focal theme where Special Chief Secretary, Govt. of Telangana, Ajay Mishra; TAS President Prof K Narasimha Reddy; and IICT Director Dr S Chandrasekhar will participate.
