Hyderabad: The Civil Supplies Department is implementing new measures to smoother and benefit ration beneficiaries in availing basic commodities. The Department introduced IRIS policy for supply of ration commodities. Last year ePOS (Biometric) system was introduced to supply ration commodities. But ePOS machine was unable to authorise some fingerprints mainly of elderly people and women as their finger prints were either wiped off or had rashes. Because of this, some beneficiaries are facing inconvenience in availing ration commodities every month.

Civil Supplies Department authorised VRO, VAO, Civil Supplies Inspectors to one-time authorisation in order to solve the problem. But in some cases, it came to the notice of the Commissioner that the authorisation had been misused. To tackle this problem, IRIS method had been introduced. The IRIS system has been implemented phase wise in all the 17,200 ration shops State-wide. From January 1, the IRIS is implemented in 5,186 shops in 16 districts.

On Friday, Commissioner Akun Sabharwal inspected IRIS performance at Sircilla and Siddipet Districts FP shops. Commissioner said this system will be introduced in all the FP shops State-wide and make sure that no malpractices are reported. The IRIS system will help poor people, especially elder people to avail their monthly ration regularly without any difficulty.

In the first phase, IRIS was implemented in 5,186 FP shops out of 8635 in Adilabad, Nagarkurnool, Suryapet, Khammam, Nalgonda, Kothagudem, Gadwal, Nirmal, Bhongir, Mancherial, Kamareddy, Jagtial, Siddipet, Mahbubnagar, Sircilla and Peddapally districts from January 1. In the last four days some 15 lakh people have taken ration commodities.
