Madhapur:The visitors to Shilparamam were greeted by volunteers of Greenpeace India who offered them seed balls and showed visuals of the ill-effect of plastic. The Greenpeace India conducted a two-day environmental awareness drive ‘Clean Air Now’ that concluded on Sunday.

Ayushi Kapoor, Outreach Officer, Greenpeace India said, “The aim of this drive is to instill the idea of sustainability. Everyone should contribute to the environment.” She further stated that there is a huge dip in vegetation cover.”Seed balls distributed

The concept of seed balls is derived from Japanese culture. The seed balls contain mud, compost, coco pit and organic seeds. One needs to throw it across a barren land and then nature would take care. On its own, automatically with water moisture it will turn into a plant or they can also plant it in their house and office as well,” Ayushi Kapoor added.
Visitors carrying plastic were given recycled cloth bags made out of a sarees. They were also shown videos on National Cleaner programme.

Ram, Functional Manager of Greenpeace India, said, “Through ‘Clean Air Now’ drive we are demanding that the authorities concerned take up the cleaner programme and reduce plastic. We hope that by organising these drives and campaigns and by educating the citizens, they would stop the usage of plastic.

Pawan Kumar Jha, an artist from Bihar who migrated to Hyderabad 20 years back, regretted, “We got used to it and habituated to using plastic.” Lata, a first-year BSC student said, “Surely will have to reduce the use of plastic because birds and other animals are affected due to plastic.” Maulika and Sameer, members of Greenpeace India, were also present on the occasion.
