Hyderabad: Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (JNTU-H) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Wednesday to collaborate on creating an Intellectual Property Ecosystem at J-HUB at the university.

Speaking after signing of the MoU, Vice Chancellor, Prof A Venugopal Reddy, said, “the university is taking all necessary steps to promote innovation culture and the MoU will help faculty and students on the Intellectual Properties aspect of product development and industry collaboration.”

He said that students are coming up with prototypes of the ideas. The efforts for product development are being stepped up and support to IP aspects of product commercialisation are required to take it to the next level and possible start up incubation. Further, the applied research of faculty and industrial connect in related areas would necessitate IP protection with agreements.

As part of the MoU, a satellite office of CII-IPR cell is being established at the J-HUB at the university. This would be a single window for all IP aspects of faculty and student innovation from awareness, advisory, counselling, search, filing to agreements and commercialisation, he added.

Sanjay Singh, chairman of CII Telangana said, “the MoU will facilitate regular interaction between the industry and academia and help in creating awareness on IPR, provide a platform for sharing best practices in IP Management and fostering IP based innovations.

Prof N Yadaiah, Registrar, JNTU-H, KS Venkatagiri, executive director, CII Green Business Centre, Subhajit Saha, Director and Head, CII Telangana, Prof A Govardhan, Rector, and Prof G Vijaya Kumari, Director, J-Hub, Prof B N Bhandari, Director Academic and Planning of the university were present.
