Vikarabad: District Joint Collector Aruna Kumari directed health officers to create public awareness by medical staff and AASHA workers to protect and develop girl child.

She held a review meeting with medical staff and AASHA workers on sex determination test and Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Yojana programme at collectorate here on Wednesday.

Aruna Kumari informed that there are only 825 girls for every 1,000 men and asked AASHA workers to sensitise people to increase the ratio. She sought cooperation of AASHA workers in solving problems being faced by girls.

The JC said that education of girl child was necessary in society and added that they were reaching new heights in all fields.
She warned of action against those who conduct pre-natal sex determination tests. Aruna asked officers to encourage safe deliveries in government hospitals.

District Medical Officer Upender Reddy, Programme officer Dr Lalitha, district child welfare officer Jyoshna, mass media officer Chandraiah and others were present.
