Krishna Nagar: The delay in road expansion is causing serious hardships for the residents. The works that began long back are in a shambles with no proper execution and planning. The road to the Hi-Tech City from Borabanda is very narrow and commuters find it difficult to negotiate, as a result it becomes time consuming to pass out from the entire stretch.

The government had taken up a survey for road expansion and identified about 219 houses to be acquired for the expansion. However, only six of the 219 have received compensatory cheques in this regard.

It is learned that road expansion works were stopped due to Assembly election code. Now with Lok Sabha elections nearing, the locals are urging the officials to take up the works immediately before the election code would be initiated. Residents opined that works will get the momentum if officials would start distributing the compensation money to victims. They also said that traffic diversion during the expansion works may speed up the process.

Ramesh, Zonal Commissioner of GHMC, said that they were planning to distribute the cheques within a week and prepared a plan for road expansion. He added that they were planning to remove other houses and start the remaining works at the earliest.
