Warangal: The message is loud and clear. “It’s better if the TRS leaders and cadres stuck to their task instead of venturing out until Lok Sabha polls are over,” party working president KT Rama Rao said, rather cautioned his party men. Speaking at the Warangal Parliamentary party preparatory meeting at the O City Grounds, once the precincts of Azam Jahi Mills, here on Thursday, he emphasised the need for sending a strong contingent of TRS MPs to Delhi.
“Even though funds were sparsely trickling in from the BJP-led Central Government, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has made rest of country turn its head towards the youngest State Telangana,” KTR said. Quoting Telangana ideologue Prof Jayashankar’s words, “We should not be in a position to beg the Centre, but be in a position to dictate terms to achieve our justifiable demands,” he said it’s only possible if TRS wins 16 out of 17 Lok Sabha seats in the forthcoming elections.
Numerical strength gives TRS grab the scruff of the Centre to get rightful share of funds, KTR said, referring to the major lift irrigation projects – Kaleshwaram and Palamuru-Rangareddy – that have immense potential to convert lakhs of acres of parched land into green fields.
Stating, “Neither the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nor the Congress is in a position to get required mandate in the upcoming elections,” he said likeminded regional parties, if joined together, can call the shots in the hung Parliament. He appealed to people not to drain their vote in gutter by backing Congress or BJP which likely to end up in no man’s land after the Lok Sabha elections.
He cautioned the leaders and cadres against complacency heading into the general elections especially after that overwhelming victory in the recent Assembly polls. KCR has always cared for Warangal, the epicentre of Telangana Movement, sanctioned funds for its all-round development, he said, pointing to upcoming Mega Textile Park and Lingampally reservoir, besides Rs 300 crore per annum special developmental funds.
The importance given to Warangal reflects in Kakatiya Kala Thoranam, the historical arch, inscribed in Telangana Government’s emblem. Tanks restoration project was also christened as Mission Kakatiya, he recalled.
Minister for Panchayat Raj Errabelli Dayakar Rao, MPs Pasunuri Dayakar, Azmeera Seetharam Naik, Banda Prakash, legislators K Srihari, Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar, Nannapuneni Narender, Aroori Ramesh, Thatikonda Rajaiah, Challa Dharma Reddy, Palla Rajeshwar Reddy and former Speaker Sirikonda Madhusudana Chary were among others who spoke before KTR.
Earlier, KTR was given a rousing welcome at Hasanparthy, suburbs of the city, Kakatiya University cross roads and Mulugu crossroads before heading to meeting venue, O City.
