Hyderabad: One of the India’s oldest newspapers, Rahnuma-e-Deccan will be celebrating its centenary. The announcement was made by Syed Vicaruddin, the chief editor of Rahnuma-e-Deccan during a dinner hosted at his residence. Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali, veteran journalist and BBC former Deputy Bureau Chief Satish Jacob, eminent broadcaster and founder of Go News Pankaj Pachauri and Chief Editor of Gawah Syed Fazil Hussain Parvez were amongst the eminent guests.
Later, Mahmood Ali also inaugurated the renovated office of Rahnuma-e-Deccan at Asif Nagar in the presence of Online Editor (TheRahnuma.com) Syed Amiruddin. He lauded Vicaruddin’s extraordinary services and contributions to the field of journalism and assured cooperation for holding the centenary celebrations of Rahnuma-e-Deccan.
The newspaper currently in its 98th year was founded as Rehbar-e-Deccan. It was later christened as Rahnuma-e-Deccan and is headed by Syed Vicaruddin. “Rahnuma-e-Deccan played an important role in bridging ties of India with the Arab world. The editor Vicaruddin was honoured with highest civilian awards of Morocco and the ‘Star of Jerusalem’ recognition by Palestine for his extraordinary efforts for the Indo-Arab relations. Five Ministers of India including Indira Gandhi personally attended the public meetings organized by UN recognized non-profit organisation Indo-Arab League (IAL) in Hyderabad,” informed Dr Mir Akbar Ali Khan, Vice Chairman of IAL.
Pankaj Pachauri and Satish Jacob also appreciated the contributions of Rahnuma-e-Deccan and said the publication is an inspiration for contemporary journalists of both print and electronic media.
The dinner was hosted in honour of eminent journalists who were in Hyderabad to participate in the three-day workshop on ‘Social Media and Journalism’ organized by MANUU at university campus and supported by Syed Vicaruddin.
Captain Aziz Baig, Go News correspondent Sadhika Tiwari, Azam Shahid journalist based in Bengaluru, Dean of MCJ (MANUU) Prof Ehtesham, Secretary of Sultan ul Uloom Education Society Zafar Javeed and others were present on this occasion.
