Hyderabad: The Centre has decided to promulgate an ordinance to clear the way for appointment of faculty members in universities in two Telugu States. It has brought cheer among the unemployed. However, officials from both the Telangana State and AP said it may not be possible to take up any action immediately because the code of conduct for the ensuing parliament elections is expected to be announced in a couple of days.
Speaking to The Hans India, a senior official from the Telangana State Higher Education (TSHD) said, "even for the issue of notification, it will take not less than one week to 10 days. Even, if the recruitment notification is issued, we cannot complete the process due to the poll code," he added.
Adding, there is no need for any fresh approval from the State government because it had already given its nod for the recruitment of faculty members in all the State universities.
But the same could not be taken forward as a case was pending in the apex court against roaster of reservation. With the issue of the ordinance, now, the decks are cleared for the recruitment process, he added. Elaborating on this, Osmania University, Vice-Chancellor Prof S Ramachandram said the ordinance is a great relief and it will clear the hurdles in the process of recruitment of the faculty members.
We will take steps to notify the recruitment process. However, from the practical point of view, it might be possible only after the completion of the ensuing elections as we cannot take up the recruitments due to the intervening poll code," he said. Responding on the issue, sources in the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) said, that it is good news for Andhra Pradesh.
Because the State had already completed the process of a common entrance test for the recruitment process of faculty in the State universities. However, the results of the examination were kept in abeyance following a direction from the University Grants Commission (UGC). Since the ordinance would clear the way, the State government would take a final decision on this, he said.
