Vizianagaram: The agitations for a unified State continued on the 12th day across the district on Saturday. The Congress, TDP and YSRCP staged protests. Similarly, protests were staged under the aegis of Samaikyandhra Joint Action Committee and Samaikyandhra Parirakshana Samithi. The transport services was completely paralysed due to the stir.
Congress MP Botcha Jhansilakshmi was gheraoed by the agitators when she came to the RTC Complex where SJAC was staging protests to express her solidarity. They demanded her resignation in support of the united State. However, she left the venue sans giving any assurance on her resignation. As a result, the angry protestors raised slogans against her. Later, they took out a mock funeral procession of AICC president Sonia Gandhi and TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao and burnt their effigies.
Meanwhile, Government Hire Vehicle Owner and Drivers Association secretary Padala Santosh Kumar extended support to the ongoing agitation for the united State.
SitiCable operatorsblock roads
The SitiCable operators organised a road blockade at Seethanagaram here on Saturday demanding a unified State. Traffic came to a standstill on Vizianagaram-Parvatipuram road when the cable operators squatted on the road. Later, Vanta-Varpu was conducted on the road.
Parvatipuram MLA Savarapu Jayamani said she had tendered resignation to her post and will exert pressure on the Central government along with other public representatives till it takes back the decision on bifurcation. “We will decide future course of action after a meeting with Andhra MLAs on August 12,” she said.
Bobbili YSRCP leader Baby Nayana alleged that the Centre has declared the division of the State with an ulterior motive. Bobbili Siti Cable MD Gopalakrishna and cable operators were present.
