Haritha Yuva Vahini organised a meeting on rain water harvesting here on Sunday in association with AP Ground Water Department, Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), JCI Vizag and Vizag NGOs. Addressing the meeting, convenor of Forum for Better Visakha EAS Sarma said rain water harvesting was the need of the hour to help recharge the ground water table by storing rain water in either small percolation tanks or recharge pits. He called upon the people to take the initiative of making Vizag city a water sustainable city in coordination with the GVMC and the NGOs. Mr Sarma asked the organisers to educate the people that rain water harvesting would increase the ground water levels, reduce flooding of low-lying areas, reduce dependency on municipal water supply and it is eco-friendly. Vijay Nirman Company managing director S Vijay Kumar, Prof. A Prasanna Kumar and environmentalist Ratnam were among those who spoke.
