Hanamkonda: Rich tributes were paid to labour leader and former union minister late G Venkat Swamy marking his 88th birth anniversary here on Thursday.

A programme in this connection was organised by Telangana Mala Vidyarthi Sangham (TMVS) at Ambedkar statue in Hanamkonda. Speaking on the occasion, the sangham state president Vemula Ramesh said Venkat Swamy, who was popularly called ‘Kaka’, has made great contributions for the welfare of poor and downtrodden communities.

He held several key positions and was instrumental in building houses for nearly 75, 000 homeless poor and ensured free education to SC/ST/BC and minority students. The community members should draw inspiration from him and strive for the welfare of suppressed classes, he added.

GWMC corporator Jorika Ramesh, Atmakur Market Committee chairman B Rajani Kumar, Telangana Ambedkar Yuva Jana Sangham state secretary S Ravi Prasad, KURSA president K Jagan, TRSV KU in-charge J Rajender, TGVP city president M Ranjith Kumar and others were present.
