Hanamkonda: Manda Krishna Madiga, the founder president of Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti (MRPS), has demanded the Chief Minister, K Chandrashekar Rao, to appoint one from 15 MLAs from Madiga/Mala community as the Social Welfare Minister.

Addressing a media conference here on Tuesday, he held the TRS government responsible for the death of K Bharathi, MRPS activist, who died after participating in a dharna in Hyderabad on November 6. “Had the Chief Minister wrote a letter to the Central government seeking its appointment to press for the demand of SC’s categorisation, the MRPS wouldn’t have organised a protest which eventually led to the death of Bharathi,” Manda Krishna said.

The CM had been dillydallying over taking an all-party delegation to Delhi since February, he said. The MRPS urged the CM time and again but when there was no response, it became imminent to stage a protest, he said, accusing the police of using brutal force against the protestors. Following which Bharathi died, but the government says it she was ill before the protest.

If the government claims are true, why don’t the CM order an inquiry into the issue with a sitting High Court judge, Manda Krishna questioned. Referring to the Finance Minister Eatala Rajender’s statement that Bharathi died of epilepsy (fits), he questioned was he (Eatala) competent to make such a statement when it was the duty of the Home Minister or else Health Minister. He accused Eatala of spitting venom on SCs.

Manda Krishna criticised Energy Minister G Jagadishwar Reddy, who also holds the portfolio of SC Development, for ignoring the issues faced by the SCs. He demanded the CM to appoint some legislator, who belongs from Madiga or Mala as the Minister for SC Development. Manda Krishna warned the TRS government of biting the dust in the hands of dalits if it fails to mend its ways.

He urged the MRPS activists to take out demonstrations and candle rallies until the memorial meeting of Bharathi sometime later. It may be mentioned here that MRPS has invited Narmada Bachao Andolan leader Medha Patkar for the memorial meet for which the date is yet to be finalised.Teegala Pradeep, Bottu Dayakar, Velpula Veeranna and Mallesh were among others present.
