Bhupalpally: The district forest department eco-tourism wing is conducting ‘Bird Watching Festival’ and ‘10 K Forest Run’ this month, as part of its eco-tourism promotion activity. The district eco-tourism coordinator, Kalyanapu Suman, informed that Bird Watching Festival will take place on December 9 while 10 K Forest Run will be organised on December 10, in Eturnagaram Wildlife Sanctuary, which is 100 km from Warangal.
Eturnagaram Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the oldest sanctuaries in Telangana and is famous for bird watching. Ornithologists and nature enthusiasts used to frequent the sanctuary from Singapore, Bengal, Bihar, New Delhi and members of Hyderabad Birding Pals, Andhra Pradesh Bird Watching Society, he told The Hans India.
One can see birds like Woodpeckers, Barbets, Hornbills, Common hoopoe, trogon, rollers, Kingfishers, Bee-eaters, Cuckoos, Coucals, parrots, parakeets, Swifts, Owls, Pigeons, Bustards, Crakes, snipes, stints, Jacanas, Lapwings, gulls, kites, Eagles, Falcons, cormorants, Egrets, Herons and others in the sanctuary.
The Bird Watching Festival will to start at 6.30 am and the visitors will be taken to different birding sites like Jinnela Cheruvu, Gangaram and Black Berry Island. A seminar on Bird watching at Tadvai Forest Huts Museum on 11am will be held. Those interested need pay Rs 100 towards registration charges, he said.
Those intending to participate in 10K Forest Run (Marathon) has to reach Pasra forest complex by 9 am and this is for free of cost event in which anyone can participate. Participants will be given participation certificates and winners will be given achievement certificates and medals.
