doorEluru: Senior public health officers of West Godavari district have been asked to take measures for door-to-door awareness drive on dengue as the symptoms of the disease were noticed in some parts of neighbouring districts. The preparedness of the district health officers in the fight against dengue was reviewed by District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) T Sakuntala here on Tuesday. Addressing the senior officers, the DMHO said that the health workers should be assigned with the task of educating people on the precautions to be taken to get protected from dengue. The medical officers should accompany the teams of health workers and tour extensively in rural areas to verify the state of cleanliness and water-safety. Water samples from the villages should be collected during their visit. They should issue warning notices to the panchayats concerned when they detect unhygienic conditions during their tour. Foolproof measures should be taken for eradication of mosquitoes which are the chief source for the spread of dengue, she said. Stating that dengue should be prevented at any cost, Dr. Sakuntala asked the officials to engage health staff to educate people on the protective measures. Stagnated water in the disposed tender coconuts would prove fatal, she warned. It was the duty of the officials to ensure no water source of mosquito growth should be left unplugged, she said.
