Undi (West Godavari): Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA Siva Rama Raju has slept at the local 220 KV sub-station on Friday in protest against the frequent power cuts in the district during night time.

People were facing severe problems due to power cuts in summer, particularly during nights. MLA Siva Rama Raju has slept on the floor in protest against power cuts during nights. "I will withdraw the protest only after an assurance of uninterrupted power supply during night times by the authorities," the TDP leader said.

A local villager said power cuts during night times were depriving people of their sleep due to mosquito menace. People were awake during power cuts, unable to sleep, he said.

The electricity authorities have been resorting to unscheduled power cuts in the nights for three to four hours making the lives of the people miserable. They had to be awake as mosquitoes would not allow them to sleep. The days of sleeping outside or on the roof tops in cool summer breeze during nights have gone. Now people can neither sleep outside or in the house without electric fans for fear of mosquitoes, he said.
