sarpanchEluru (West Godavari): Former woman sarpanch Vattikuti Shyamala told the District Collector G Vani Mohan that a person has been threatening to kill her in connection with a land dispute and asked for protection. She submitted a representation to the Collector on the issue. Collector Vani Mohan was addressing public grievances at the Prajavani programme at Collectorate here on Monday. Shyamala of Kommugudem village in Tadepalligudem mandal owns 10 acres of agricultural land between Neeladripuram and Krishnapuram. She said that Vattikuti Venkatarama Rao called her to come to the land to settle the dispute over the border issue and verbally abused and physically harmed her. "I complained to the police on him but he is at present absconding avoiding arrest," said Shyamala breaking into tears. She also said that Venkatarama Rao has been making threatening calls demanding to withdraw the police case. The Collector assured that Shyamala would be given security and directed the District Superintendent of Police to take action on the culprit. People from the Siripalle village of Ganapavaram mandal complained that the due to the construction of drainage by R&B department beside the PWS department water pipe near Kothapalli Road, drinking water was getting contaminated. The Collector directed the Ganapavaram MPDO to take immediate action to resolve the problem. Patta Kanakadurga of Jeedimetla village in Jangareddygudem mandal said that she got admitted in a hospital as she was suffering from HIV. Meanwhile, a person named Doda Rambabu took possession of her house. Even after complaining to the police, the issue was not resolved, she said. The Collector directed the Tahsildar concerned to look into the matter and submit a report to her. District Joint Collector Dr T Baburao Naidu, District Revenue Officer M Mohanraju, Zilla Parishad CEO Nagarjuna Sagar, District Panchayat Officer Nagaraj Varma and others were present on the occasion.
