Hyderabad: A Adarsh Reddy from Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet here emerged on top in the 13th edition of the uniquely conceptualised Hyderabad Regional Brain Bee (a Neuroscience Contest)-2018 contest that was initiated by Dr Sita Jayalakshmi, neurologist at KIMS Hospital in the hospital’s premises on Sunday.

The tone was set in motion by Ravindranadh, the coordinator for Indian National Brain Bee, who appreciated that 22 students drawn from across 13 premier educational institutions had qualified for the Hyderabad leg finale.

According to the organisers from Avanti Educational and Research Charitable Trust and KIMS Hospitals, since the founding of the contest, they were endeavouring to promote neuroscience among the student community and inspire them to pursue careers in biomedical brain research.

In keeping with the subject and its importance for the students, Dr Subhash Kaul, HoD Neurology at NIMS, who was the judge for the program, delivered a stimulating talk on a brain’s behavior, the need for a neurologist besides the world of career opportunities in neurosciences that students could explore.

The competition revolved around a written test and three rounds of oral quizzing.R Manisha from Bhavan’s Sri Aurobindo Junior College and C Srinivasa, also from HPS Begumpet took the second and third spots. Adarsh Reddy will participate in the 11th Indian National Brain Bee to be conducted in Pune in May. The national winner will head for the International Brain Bee Championship, to be held in Germany in July.
