Virat Kohli played the iconic AB de Villiers scoop shot during India's six-wicket win over Australia in the second Twenty20 International (T20I) on Sunday and was keen on getting a reaction from his Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) teammate.

Kohli went down on one knee against Tye after taking a couple of steps outside the off-stump before hitting it over the fine leg for a six. The Indian skipper played the shot during India's chase of 195 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Sunday. Kohli scored 24-ball 40 before becoming the maiden international wicket of Australian fast bowler Daniel Sams. Shikhar Dhawan scored a half-century before Hardika Pandya once again produced a Player of the Match performance. He remained unbeaten on 42 off 22 balls, along with Shreyas Iyer on 12 not out off five balls.

"We played really well as a team in T20 cricket. The fact that two of our established players are not playing and to win like this, makes me very proud of this team. Everyone has played 14 games recently (in the IPL) and they know their plans. Natarajan was outstanding and Shardul was good today. Hardik finishing off the game and Shikhar getting that fifty, it's a whole team effort.

The reason for him (Hardik) to come into our team in 2016 was pure ability, he now realizes that this is the time to establish in that (finishing) role and play match-winning knocks for us. He plays with all his heart and he certainly got that competitive nature about him and also has the skill to execute that at the highest level. That's (next game) gonna be very exciting. In the tough moments, when so many people backing you, the next game is going to be exciting," said Kohli at the post-match presentation.

On being asked about the scoop shot, Kohli said," It (scoop over fine leg) was a bit of funny moment, surprised myself there, I will send AB a text tonight and see what he thinks of it."

Kohli's shot went viral on social media, especially after his quote on de Villiers.

The former South African cricketer, de Villiers, who is fondly called the Mr. 360 for his unorthodox hitting, reacted with smileys on Wisden's tweet about the scoop shot.

With the six-wicket victory against Australia on Sunday, Team India now has been unbeaten in as many as 11 T20I matches, including nine consecutive T20I wins ((2 vs Sri Lanka, 5 vs New Zealand, and 3 vs Australia) and all the victories have come in 2020. In the list of most consecutive wins in the T20Is, the top two sports belong to Afghanistan (12 wins: 2018-19 and 11 wins:2016-17) ahead of Pakistan and India (9 successive wins).

India, who were chasing a target of 195, also registered their seventh successful chase of a 190-plus total in the shortest format ahead of England (5), Australia (4), West Indies (3), and South Africa (2).
