Highlights

Later this year the Jio Home TV is expected to break out in the market along with the launch of the GigaFiber service.

In recent months, Jio's next GigaFiber broadband service has generated the noise that the broadband sector required for a long time. With the preview offer that allows interested customers to try out the new service for free until its commercial launch, Jio is already on track to build a solid consumer base. However, another leak that intimated about its subscription to the Triple Play plan gave a clue about Jio's upcoming DTH service.

For a long time, Jio's DTH service has been known as the GigaTV service after Jio called its GigaFiber broadband service. However, a leak from an industry expert revealed that Jio could call its DTH Jio Home TV service and that the fact that it comes along with the GigaFiber connection will differentiate it from other players in this segment, especially with respect to the technology the upcoming service will be using.

Since Home TV will be a Jio service, it is expected to revolutionize the DTH and cable TV industry in terms of pricing and implementation. While there is not much information revealed by Jio, here is a compilation of everything that is expected from Jio Home TV.

Jio Home TV: Expectations from this next-gen TV service

The first big difference with respect to conventional DTH operators is how Jio packages it to the customer. Instead of selling it as an independent service, Jio Home TV is expected to be part of the GigaFiber broadband service and will be complementary to each GigaFiber subscription

Jio Home TV or Jio GigaTV will be an important leap with respect to the current technology on which the existing DTH operators are based. Instead of relying on conventional technology, Jio Home TV will rely on the IPTV service. This means that Jio Home TV will use the Internet connection to broadcast TV channels. The fiber technology that Jio uses for GigaFiber can support heavier loads and, therefore, it would be easier and cheaper for Jio to transmit channels through its Internet connection.

Since Jio Home TV will rely on Internet connectivity to broadcast TV channels, you can expect many additional features that might not have seen before in this segment. Rumours suggest that Jio Home TV will enable users to make voice and video calls directly from their TV. In addition, if you have a smart TV, the gigabit class speeds of the network will allow you to stream 4K movies without buffering.

Rumours suggested that Jio Home TV will be quite affordable. The Triple Play Plan, which is expected to cost around Rs 600 and will offer 600 TV channels. Along with that, you can also get access to 1Gbps broadband and a fixed line connection.

Since Jio acquired stakes in the Hathway and Den networks, Jio Home TV could be launched with a robust support network derived from these two broadband operators.

Jio Home TV: Expected prices

Those who have applied for the preview offer of the GigaFiber broadband service say that once the commercial launch occurs, Jio will provide a fixed line and a decoder. Therefore, subscribers will be merged into three services as a package. The rumours suggest that the Triple Play Plan with a value of Rs 600 will offer one month of subscription to 600 TV channels, 100GB of data at 1Gbps and unlimited calls through a landline.
