Alphabet launches Chrome extension to solve the Internet's biggest problems
1.Google parent company Alphabet has launched a new Chrome extension called Tune. 2.Tune lets people monitor abusive comments through several websites. 3.Tune is already working on Disqus, Facebook, Reddit, Twitter and YouTube
Currently, one of the most important issues on the web is tracking and hiding comments by millions of users on posts and videos. Google's parent company Alphabet, has just introduced a new Chrome extension called Tune, which could make life simpler by enabling people to monitor abusive comments through several websites and posts without any difficulty.
The tool that makes use of machine learning to identify such comments is made by Jigsaw, Google's sister company. The technology that came in to being in the form of an API back in 2017, now basically uses the same machine learning technology with the Tune Chrome extension. It is available on the Chrome web store and can be downloaded also.
To download the extension needs you to log in to your Google account. Once you are done, you can manage the level of abusiveness in comments that you want to get rid of. As of now, this is already working on five social websites i.e. Disqus, Facebook, Reddit, Twitter and YouTube.
You can find the Tune icon on the top corner of the Chrome browser when the users visit any of the five websites. From there the users can use the rotating dial to control the comment filters all the way from 'Show All' to 'Hide all'. The 'Show All' option would show all sort of insults, abuses and other comments with personal attacks among others. Rotating the dial to the opposite side completely won't show you a single comment on the posts.
In a post on Medium, CJ Adams, product manager at Jigsaw says, "Tune lets you turn the volume of toxic comments down for "zen mode" to skip comments completely or turn it up to see everything even the mean stuff. Or you can set the volume somewhere in between to customize the level of toxicity (e.g. attacks, insults, profanity, etc) you're willing to see in comments."
While this is an 'experimental' tool, it might not be able to eliminate the abusive comments totally each and every time. Though, Jigsaw plans to improve it over time.
