  • It is rumoured that Google is developing a search engine mainly for China
  • Google claimed that it is not working with the Chinese military

It looks like US president Donald Trump always has a problem with one or the other big tech company. A couple of months ago Trump had criticized how Apple should stop manufacturing its products in China. And now it's Google's turn, the US president has gone and blamed it for "helping" China and their military.

In a tweet posted on March 17, Trump wrote, "Google is helping China and their military, but not the U.S. Terrible! The good news is that they helped Crooked Hillary Clinton, and not Trump....and how did that turn out?"

It was also a dig at her presidential rival Hillary Clinton. For the people who don't know why Trump is blaming Google, it came after US chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff also criticized Google. As per reports, Major general Joseph Dunford told, "The work that Google is doing in China is indirectly benefiting the Chinese military."

Immediately Google responded and denied such claims. A spokesperson reportedly told the Wall Street Journal, "We are not working with the Chinese military. We are working with the U.S. government, including the Department of Defense, in many areas including cybersecurity, recruiting and healthcare."

Google has been under the scanner for a while for its China involvement. It has been rumoured that Google is under the process of developing a search engine especially for China which will be suppressed as per the country's guidelines. Whereas Google CEO Sundar Pichai told in December that the giant tech has no plans to launch such a search engine but didn't rule out launching it in the future.

For the last couple of months, the US and China have been involved in a trade war which had an adverse collision on tech firms on both sides. Despite the fact that Chinese brands like Huawei are fully banned from selling in the US, a firm like Apple has seen their sales getting declined in China.
