As per IHS Market report, Apple has shipped 26.4 million units of the iPhone XR. We all know 2019 has not been a great year for Apple. Then how did the iPhone XR manage to be the best-selling smartphone of the year? Yes, you are right! Apple got its pricing right.
It was launched in October 2018, at a starting price of Rs 76,900 for the 64GB variant. The other two variants were priced at Rs 81,900 and Rs 91,900 respectively. Even though it was pitched as an 'affordable' iPhone, it was out of reach for a majority of Indians.
It's all about the price tag!
In January, Apple slashed the price of the iPhone in China for the first time. Then in March, another price cut was made by Apple in China. This, together with specific other deals and financing options that helped Apple to gain the lost ground.
In India for the first time, Apple dropped the prices of the iPhone XR unofficially in April. It wasn't an official price cut but through offline retailers, online retailers and bank offers, the iPhone was priced at as low as Rs 53,900.
The iPhone XR at Rs 53,900 was an attractive deal who were planning to buy an iPhone but weren't ready to shell out the initial price. It's been almost five months, and still, the iPhone XR is sold for Rs 62,900 on Amazon. An IDC report suggested that the iPhone XR has been the most popular iPhone in India.
Slashing the price of the iPhone in India and China has turned the luck in favour of Apple. The iPhone XR has turned to be more than a "good iPhone" for this tech giant company.
