10% quota for EWS in Telangana State medical colleges
Notification issued for admissions into MBBS, BDS courses
Hyderabad: In line with the recent Central Act under which 10 per cent of the total seats are reserved for the economically weaker sections (EWS) in the professional colleges, the Telangana government has initiated measures to implement the reservation for EWS in medical education.
In a first, the government on Friday issued notification allotting 10 per cent of the total seats in the specified government medical and dental colleges to the EWS category by amending the Telangana Medical and Dental Colleges Admission (Admission into MBBS and BDS courses) Rules, 2017.
The notification said that 10 per cent seats will be allotted to EWS category who are not covered under the existing scheme of reservation for SC, ST and socially and educationally backward classes, Special Chief Secretary to Medical and Health A Santhi Kumari said.
These reservations will be implemented from specially sanctioned seats for the EWS category.
'Horizontal reservations will be calculated on the total number of seats available in the EWS category for each course as per the percentage allotted to each category," the secretary said in the notification.
The candidates who claimed the admission under the EWS category should submit income and asset certificate for the reservation under the EWS category issued by the competent authority, the official said.
The Department of Medical Education will take necessary steps in the implementation of the EWS reservation in all government medical institutions.
Meanwhile, Kaloji Narayan Rao University of Health Sciences issued a notification inviting online applications for admission into MBBS and BDS courses for competent authority quota.
Applications are invited online from NEET–UG-2019 qualified candidates from June 22 to 28. The students are requested to refer to www.knruhs.telangana.gov.in for detailed notification.
