Consequently, Shadnagar police station on Saturday witnessed a flurry of angry protests by the locals, women and students, who in unison chanted 'Death to the gang of four'.
No amount of cajoling by the cops could stave off the backlash by the concerned citizens, who bore the brunt of lathi-charge by the edgy cops, who were present in large numbers outside the police station.
Hundreds of students and local residents gathered at the police station and squatted on the road bringing vehicular traffic to a grinding halt.
The irate protesters tried to gatecrash into the police station to lynch the gang of four escalating tension in the area.
