Hyderabad: BJP MPs from Karimnagar Bandi Sanjay and Adilabad Soyam Bapu Rao demanded Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao take immediate steps to end attacks on the party leaders and cadre by the TRS leaders using the police machinery.

Addressing a joint media conference here on Saturday, Bandi Sanjay said that the number of incidents of attack on BJP leaders, cadre and supporters have been increasing across the State in the aftermath of the parliament and panchayat elections in Telangana.

Latest in the series of incidents is the attack perpertrated by the TRS leaders in the Kodumunja village in the combined Karimnagar district, he said.

Alleging innocent villagers were attacked while performing puja at a temple, Sanjay said, "the police have refused to receive a complaint from the victims of the attack.

Instead, acting at the behest of the local TRS leaders, the police have slapped false cases with an attempt to murder charges under section 370 of IPC against the villagers."

When inquired with the police they could not show any evidence to prove their charges. Yet, they ensured that the villagers belonging to a particular section were sent to remand for 15 days and preparing to file objections for grant of bail.

Further, insistence made the police assuring to the BJP leaders that the charges would be amended, he said.

Few women from Kodumunja village present at the media conference have explained how they were attacked, harassed and humiliated by the police abusing them in unparliamentary language and kept their kin and kit in the police station till 3 am, they alleged.

The Karimnagar MP said the Kodumunja issue would be taken to the BC Commission as well as it would be presented before the Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

State president Dr K Laxman had already briefed Amit Shah on the growing incidents of attacks on the BJP leaders and cadre in Telangana, he said.

Adilabad MP Soyam Bapu Rao demanded the Chief Minister to fulfil his promise of providing Godavari river waters first to the combined Adilabad district before taking them to other places.

He said that the State government had procured groundnut from the farmers in the district.

However, they are not paid for the last six months and he demanded the Chief Minister to take steps for immediate payment of the dues.

He asked Adivasis to enroll in big numbers during the BJP membership campaign drive starting from July 6.
