Cesarean Section deliveries alarming says Warangal Collector Prashanth Jeevan Patil
The ratio of women delivering through a surgical incision in the mother’s abdomen and uterus, known as ceasarean section (C-Section), is high in private hospitals compared to the State-run institutions, Warangal Urban District Collector Prashanth Jeevan Patil said.
Warangal: The ratio of women delivering through a surgical incision in the mother's abdomen and uterus, known as ceasarean section (C-Section), is high in private hospitals compared to the State-run institutions, Warangal Urban District Collector Prashanth Jeevan Patil said.
The Collector, who chaired a review meeting of the medical officials here on Wednesday, said that while the rate of C-Section deliveries in government hospitals is 61 percent, it's 88 per cent in the private entities, which is alarming. He directed the officials to convene a meeting with the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the gynaecologists to discuss about the phenomena.
Referring to the sex determination tests, Patil told the officials to keep a tab on hospitals and diagnostic centres that were resorting to pre-natal sex determination tests, violating the Pre-Conception Pre-Natal Determination Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act, 1994 (PCPNDT).
Stating that 211 dengue positive cases were recorded in the district since January this year, the Collector emphasised the need for conducting awareness camps about the malady.
Referring to the Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) data from the ongoing massive screening exercise, the Collector said that so far under the programme, 1,53,046 in rural areas and 98,775 in urban areas in the age group of 30 years and above have been tested for hypertension, diabetes and three types of cancers, including oral, cervical and breast cancers.
He commended the health officials concerned for identifying TB cases and extending healthcare to the patients. Trainee Collector Manu Chowdary, DM&HO Dr B Hareesh Raj, Additional DM&HO Dr Madanmohan, Deputy DM&HO Dr M Yakub Pasha, gynaecologists association president Dr Kasturi Prameeal and legal advisor Revathi Devi were among others present.
