Hyderabad: Telangana Congress is assessing the political situation in the State in the aftermath of abrogation of Article 370 and bringing in Triple Talaq Act as they may influence the thought process of people.

The party leaders are holding deliberations over the possible shift in voting pattern in urban local bodies. Though the Congress leaders have been stating that the NDA government's actions would have little impact on the voters in the State, internally they are apprehensive about the shift in voting pattern Congress leaders are of the view that as the State has a sizable number of Muslims, the recent developments would impact the political outlook of the people. Telangana is a State which echoes the national developments, they said.

Congress spokesman Nizamuddin told The Hans India that the recent developments may lead to polarisation of votes. He said that the vote may be divided between Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress.

He said that Hindu votes may polarize in favour of the BJP. Muslims are with the Congress and they would continue to patronize the Grand Old Party. Nizamuddin said that the Muslims are not much bothered about the implementation of Triple Talaq Act and said that it would be quashed by the courts.

He said that the Act may not stand the legal scrutiny. He said that marriage in Islam is a civil contract and the Centre has made it a criminal one with the new Act. "The Holy Quran does not provide for any law for triple Talaq. There are lots of steps to be followed to pronounce Talaq.

There are nine types of Talaqs as far as the Muslim law is concerned," he said. He made it clear that abrogation of Article 370 was an issue of the Kashmiris and it has nothing to do with the Muslims of the Telangana. It is the Kashmiris who have to tell their stand on that issue.

However, he said, the Telangana Muslims are of the view that they have been targeted by the BJP government and said that it would help the Congress to gain their support. He said that Muslims of Telangana have supported the TRS in the previous elections and rethinking may take place in them.

Several Congress leaders are of the view that the recent political developments in the country would help the Congress to gain the hold they have lost in the Muslims of the State. They said that as the ruling TRS has supported the BJP in several issues and the political parties and organizations representing the Muslims may have to return to the Congress.
