Adilabad: The countdown for Mandal Parishad President (MPP) post will end on Saturday (June 8) as the indirect elections for the post of MP presidents and vice-presidents will be held on that day.

The ruling TRS is confident of grabbing more than 50 per cent of MPP posts in Adilabad, Nirmal, Mancherial and Komaram Bheem-Asifabad districts as the party won more than half of the MPTC posts in the Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) elections. Opposition parties Congress and BJP are trying hard to get as much as they can to get hold of Mandal Parishad President post in the erstwhile Adilabad district.

In Adilabad district, the ruling TRS had won 83 out of 158 MPTC seats; Congress won 28; BJP won 33 and 14 independents won. In Nirmal district, of the total 156 MPTC posts, TRS won 84, Congress won 52, Independents won 14.

In Mancherial district, of the total 130 MPTC posts, TRS won 83, Congress won 39, CPI won one, and independents won 7. In Asifabad district, of the total 123 MPTC posts, TRS won 81, Congress won 21, CPI won two, BJP won three, and Independents won 16.
