EC shifts SP of Suryapet for partisan attitude
Election Commission of India (ECI) cracked a whip on Superintendent of Police (SP) of Suryapet district for allegedly showing favour towards ruling TRS party candidate in the byelection bound Huzurnagar assembly constituency.
Hyderabad: Election Commission of India (ECI) cracked a whip on Superintendent of Police (SP) of Suryapet district for allegedly showing favour towards ruling TRS party candidate in the byelection bound Huzurnagar assembly constituency.
Based on a complaint lodged by the BJP with the commission in New Delhi, EC transferred the police official, R Venkateswarlu and appointed R Bhaskaran as SP with immediate effect.
The opposition parties, including Congress held demonstrations against the SP for not acting against TRS leaders on poll code violation in certain segments.
Congress leaders also lodged complaint with the EC against Venkateswarlu recently.
To monitor the poll expenditure being incurred by the contestants, the commission has appointed senior official BR Balakrishnan and Suresh Kumar as poll observers in the byelections.
