Gadwal: With heavy rains in the upper catchment areas in the last one week, the Priyadarshini Jurala Project in the district has been receiving heavy inflows for the last few days.

According to Jurala project officials, as on Wednesday, the officials of Almatti dam in Karnataka have released 2.5 lakh cusecs of water down into Narayanpur dam, from there on the authorities at Narayanpur dam have released 3.17 lakh cusecs of waters by opening 23 gates of the dam. With this, the Jurala project has received inflows more than 3.18 lakh cusecs and the officials opened up 36 gates of the project releasing more than 3.84 lakh cusecs downstream.

"As there are huge inflows coming into the Jurala project, at present, the water level in the project has reached to 318.180 meters as against its full tank level of 318.516 metres. We have opened 36 gates and releasing more than 3 lakh cusecs of water downstream. As we are expecting more inflows from upstream, we may open more gates and increase the outflows tomorrow," informed the project officials.

As the inflows have increased considerably, the project officials have started generating hydroelectricity and releasing 27,570 cusecs of floodwater through the powerhouse. At the same time, the officials have also started releasing 822 cusecs of water into left canal, another 1,012 cusecs into right canal, about 1,500 cusecs into the Nettampad project and about 340 cusecs into the parallel canal.
