goodfridayWarangal: Good Friday was observed by Christians across the district on Friday with religious fervour commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary. The Good Friday is the key event of Holy Week, which commemorates the Passion of Christ and began on Palm Sunday on March 24 and ends on Holy Saturday on March 30, 2013 proceding Easter Sunday on March 31. Special prayer services were held at Fathima Cathedral at Kazipet, St. Mary's Church at Subedari, Dornkal CSI Church in Dornakal, Parkal CSI Church and various other churches. At Fathima Cathedral the parish priest reverend Y Chinnappa Reddy conducted the prayer services. In addition to the prescribed liturgical service the 'Stations of the Cross' are prayed in the Churches and outside the Churches followed by midday prayer services held around 3 pm known as the 'Three Hours' agony. At several Churches, plays depicting the 'Passion of Christ' were conducted by the devotees. The Good Friday also marks the conclusion of 40-day season of fasting and abstinence called Lent commended on Ash Wednesday on February 13, 2013.
