Hyderabad: In the wake of skyrocketing onions prices, which already touched nearly Rs 100 per kg, the State government has made arrangements to sell onions at a subsidised price of Rs 40 per kg in some identified Rythu bazaars in Hyderabad from Wednesday.

Initially, the sale counters would be opened in Mehdipatnam and Saroornagar Rythu bazaars. Each consumer will get only one kg onions at subsidised prices. The special onion sale counters would be opened in other places depending on the availability of the produce in the market. Currently, State Marketing department is purchasing 2 tonnes of onions for distribution to the consumers every day.

Agriculture and Marketing Minister S Niranjan Reddy also instructed the officials to write a letter to the Union government requesting to allocate a share to Telangana in onion imported from other countries.
