Nirmal: Superintendent of Police C Shashidhar Raju received salute of honour on Friday, the Raising Day of Home Guards. Participating as a chief guest, he hoisted Home Guards unit flag in Parade Grounds in Nirmal on the day.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that Home Guard was first raised in 1946 in old Bombay Province.

In Addition to the Army, Navy, Air Force and other security agencies, Civil Defence and Home Guards to provide protection to citizens in any untoward situation. Therefore, 6 December every year is celebrated throughout the nation as Raising Day of the organisation.

The role of home guard is very important in crime control, in maintaining law and order, traffic control, Blue Colts, patro car drivers, office safety, night patrol and bandobast.

The SP appreciated the services provided by the home guards to the police department earlier.

He distributed prizes to the winners of sports competitions and enquired about their family members and their problems.

Later SP Shashidhar Raju flagged off home guards parade that passed through main roads in the city and concluded at Rural Police Station.

Additional SPs Srinivas Rao and Venkat Reddy, DSP Uppendar Reddy, SBI Venkatesh, Inspectors John Diwakar, Srinivas Reddy, Jeevan Reddy, RI Venkat, Home Guards RI Krishnanjaneyulu, MTO Vinod, Police staff and Home Guards and others were present.
