Serilingampally: The members of West Zone Builders' Association on Tuesday represented to local MLA and Government Whip Arekapudi Gandhi on several problems. They complained about levying of penalties even after following regulations. The association representatives questioned the levying of penalties when construction materials were used in its activities. They expressed anguish over the GHMC officials levying fines four or five times on materials, like sand, gravel, cement, bricks in case of legal structures, even though it does not impede movements of people. At the same time, it was ignoring sprouting of unauthorised structures.

The association leaders complained about penalties being levied 'indiscriminately' even when ready-mix vehicles were used, even after the necessary fee was paid. This, they alleged, was causing mental agony to the members.

They recalled the questioning by corporators at the recent GHMC meeting on the fines being levied by the corporation while appealing to the MLA to ensure that there were no challans and to render justice to the association.

Gandhi said he would make sure that no inconvenience was caused to the association members and to take the issue of challans to the notice of higher officials so as to solve the problem. He promised that no inconvenience would be caused to those who take all permissions.

Those who met the MLA included association president Muppu Subbayya, M Prem Kumar, K V Prasad, Vaddepalli Ranga Rao, Nehru, Manne Ravi and Srinivas Reddy.
