Hyderabad: Crackdown on errant auto rickshaws
As many as 41,537 cases booked against violators in last 45 days
Commuters who take auto-rickshaws are requested to inform about violations through Hyderabad Traffic Police Facebook, Twitter, Traffic Help Line (9010203626) and Traffic Live App to ensure safety and security in the city
Hyderabad: The city traffic police are on an overdrive. This year over 41,537 cases were booked by the city traffic police against the auto drivers from January to February 14, 2020.
The highest number of cases includes extra projection, without uniform, piloting with the driver, extra passengers and carrying extra schoolchildren. The highest among the top five violations were 'extra projection (seat)' with 17,504 cases were booked on the drivers. It was followed by 'without uniform' violation which saw filing of 10,389 cases, 'piloting with drivers' 9,328cases, 'carrying extra passengers' 3,473 cases and 'carrying extra schoolchildren' 6,843 cases.
In 2018, a total of 2,41,891 cases were booked, whereas in 2019, 2,62,684 cases were booked against the auto drivers for the violations. There was an increase of 20,793 cases from 2018. Speaking to THI, Anil Kumar, Addition CP (Traffic) said, "The traffic police has been conducting several drives and campaigns related to the violations and on any offence by the auto-rickshaw drivers. I request parents not to send their children in autos with more than its seating capacity." He further says, "The commuters who take auto rickshaws to travel are also requested to inform the violations to Hyderabad traffic police through Hyderabad Traffic Police Facebook, Twitter, Traffic Help Line (9010203626) and Traffic Live App to ensure safety and security in the city." To ensure the safety of schoolchildren, the traffic police started special drives across the city against auto-rickshaws. These drives will be conducted twice a day, from 7.30 am to 9.30 am and from 3 pm to 5 pm. The special focus will be on vehicles without fitness certificates and licences, apart from drunk driving and overloading among other violations.
