Hyderabad: The city civil court on Monday convicted a former home guard Soma Murthy for raping a minor girl. The ex-cop was convicted for 10 years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine amount for Rs 22,000.

According to Chatrinaka police, the home guard who was deployed at Chatrinaka PS would frequently visit the victim girl's house as he was friend with her mother and during one such visit when the victim's mother was not around he raped her.

Based on a complaint filed by the victim's family the police investigated the matter and the home guard was arrested and he was remanded to judicial custody. The court on Monday found the home guard guilty and punished him under multiple sections of POCSO Act and imposed fine. The court also mentioned that, the home guard was guilty under the section 506 of IPC and under this section he was sentenced for another two years with an additional fine of Rs 2,000. Anjani Kumar, Hyderabad police Commissioner lauded the efforts of Chatrinaka police in getting conviction to the accused.
