Hyderabad: Meet of geoscientists inaugurated at GSITI
It is aimed at the transfer of technology for generation of skilled expertise to promote social and economic advancement amongst the developing nations
Habsiguda: Geological Survey of India Training Institute (GSITI) is conducting the 11th International Course on Geographic Information System for Geoscientists. It began on Friday. The course is to conclude on February 29.
Annually this programme is being conducted under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme sponsored by Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. It is aimed at the transfer of technology for generation of skilled expertise to promote social and economic advancement amongst the developing nations.
Eighteen participants from 16 (sixteen) ITEC countries viz. Bhutan, Botswana, Comoros, Ethiopia, Iran, Iraq, Liberia, Madagascar, Maldives, Mauritius, Mongolia, Niger, Nigeria, Russia, South Sudan and Tanzania are attending the course.
The course was inaugurated by M Sridhar, Director General, Geological Survey of India, in presence of Ch Venkateswara Rao, Deputy Director General and Head Mission-V, GSITI, and other officials of GSITI.
Welcoming the participants, the dignitaries highlighted the facet that their knowledge-sharing experience would be clubbed with the sharing of Indian cultural heritage.
As a part of this course, the participants will be imparted technical knowhow in the field of GIS and its applications, so as to efficiently apply these techniques in their respective domains. By way of this, India intends to share the fruits of its socio-economic development and technological achievement with other developing countries.
