Hyderabad: Nature Forever Society Rama Menon says Place a nest, bring back sparrows

Hyderabad: Sparrows are on the decline but bringing them back can happen, provided one places a wooden box, says Rama Menon who is a member of Nature Forever Society. Sparrows are bioindicators of nature and it would not live in a place that is not conducive. The decline of the house sparrow is an indicator of the continuous degradation of the environment, says Rama.

After distributing artificial nest and feeders to people, sparrows started coming. Locals spotted sparrows in Railway Colony, West Marredpally, Bowenpally, Mahendra Hills, AS Rao Nagar and Begumpet.

The nest boxes are made from recycled pine heartwood and eco-friendly paint and are available in various sizes. Interested can check out www.natureforever.org.
