Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) gears up to quench the thirst of Hyderabad this summer.
HMWSSB on recognising the poor network connectivity of pipelines across the newly developing rural and urban areas and where there is lack of pipeline connectivity, is planning to construct a ring main -2 around Hyderabad.
The Telangana government has accorded administrative sanction for the water supply distribution network project for the peripheral circles of Greater Hyderabad at an estimated cost of Rs 280 crore.
The project ring main-2 is an arrangement of pipes forming a loop which aids in supply of water and will be constructed connecting the rivers Godavari, Krishna with Manjeera. Under ring main one Godavari and Manjeera pipeline networks have been connected. Now this Project ring main will connect three river networks (Godavari, Krishna and Manjeera) and HMWSSB has a target to finish the project by the end of 2020.
"Under project ring main 2 we would be constructing an 18,000 mm dia pipeline around Hyderabad forming network connectivity across the cities. It would mainly connect three rivers Krishna, Godavari and Manjeera forming a single network at an estimation of Rs 280 Cr and tenders will be finalized shortly and works will commence in a month with a target to complete it by the end of the year," said P Sudhir, Director Operations, HMWSSB.
Ring main 2 creates a network for Krishna and Godavari water to connect through Siddipet, Sangareddy and Gandipet reservoirs. Once the project is completed, it would aid in effective supply of water to the major cities of Hyderabad such as Kukatpally, Alwal, LB Nagar and other areas connecting nearby.
Godavari pipeline network connectivity will benefit residents of Kukatpally, Alwal and adjoining areas. Krishna connectivity will help efficient supply of water to LB Nagar and outlining areas from the city as well urban areas in the west zone of Hyderabad. HMWSSB is also focusing on repair works of pipelines, valves, hand bore wells and power bore wells for uninterrupted water supply.
