Warangal: Kakatiya University (KU) vice chancellor Prof R Sayanna has said that he has given his best to varsity during his three-year term in the office. Speaking to media persons here on Thursday, he thanked the Telangana government for giving him the opportunity to head the prestigious varsity like KU.

It may be mentioned here that Prof Sayanna's term as the VC ends on July 25. "It was a huge opportunity for me. Even though I was a retired professor, the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao reposed faith in me.

I hope I justified his trust," Prof Sayanna said. "During my tenure, the varsity got accredited with A grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) by securing a good score (3.36). This apart, the varsity secured a place in top 20 universities of the country, he added. The varsity also secured a place in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF)'s rankings, he said.

Referring to the developmental works during his tenure, Prof Sayanna said that they have to tackle with inadequate accommodation problem faced by the students. "A girls' hostel that can accommodate 300 students has been established with an outlay of Rs 6 crore.

Besides constructing internal roads, we have mitigated water problem by implementing water harvesting programme," he said. A 450 bedded hostel constructed with an outlay of Rs 18 crore would soon be inaugurated, he added.

Despite fund crunch, the varsity addressed many a problem by properly utilising funds accumulated through fee. We successfully pursued Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) which is aimed at improving access, equity and quality in higher education, to get Rs 50 crore grant.

"Instead of churning out graduates like a machine, the varsity laid its focus on producing saleable students who can withstand the rigours of highly competitive world," Prof Sayanna said.
